Armando Leal served with the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, Mike
Company. He was killed during Operation SWIFT trying to save his wounded
Marines. For his heroic actions, Doc Leal was awarded the Navy Cross,
posthumously. Father Vincent Capodanno was also killed trying to help
save the wounded young Corpsman. Armando Leal's name stands proudly
on the Mike 3/5 Wall of

Fidelis, Doc. We will never forget.

:I
knew Armando, we ran together while stationed at the Naval Hospital
in Corpus Christi, TX. He was a very easily liked person who was admired
by everyone who knew him. I can't remember him ever having a cross word
to say about anyone. When the news came back to the hospital that he
had been killed, it was as though a hush came over the entire command.
The HM barracks in Corpus Christi were dedicated in his honor. There
are two others who were there with him who knew him better than I did.
They were twins from Kansas named Leon and Loren Brown. God
bless, Darryl Guidry
