The big one on the right is Lt. Keker 1st plt., 2nd plt. Lt. Murray,
3rd plt. Lindblom. They were checking up on their plts. in the town
of CHU LAI... they did not trust us, what could young marines do....

Promotions
and awards
We
just got to Chu Lai and we were at the air base for rest and to clean
up. It was a three plt. dress, and some of the Marines received promotions
and awards of all kinds...yes, that was the lot of us in 1966 just
before we moved out to the hills and more operations. We stayed there
for two weeks I think, and did a lot of nothing. It was all of Mike
3/5 that day, if someone looked hard they would see the ones that
made it out of HASTINGS. We got the new Marines to fill the boots
of others that we lost on the four or five operations we had before
off the ship-special landing force.
He
(Maj. Williamson) was very kind and nice to me on that day. I got
coke and a sandwich........boy, it was great..........you see I was
just a L/Cpl. at that time. Everone in my unit got to eat with me
and that was the thing I remember the most, eating with my brothers.
